Aloo Bhaji

Aloo-Bhaji

My husband was asking me to prepare something spicy for Ramzan. I was thinking over and over again and it was this mom's snack that came to mind. And if it has potatoes in it, my husband will be very happy. And what to say, this is my favourite too. I dont know whether you people have tried this, but I surely recommend this for a hot tea especially when you can listen to the hustling of rain outside your house.

Ingredients :

  1. Cooked and mashed potato : 2 medium sized
  2. Onion : 1 medium, choppeed
  3. Mustard Seeds : 1 tbsp
  4. Green Chillies : 2-3, chopped
  5. Turmeric Powder : 1/4 tsp
  6. Oil : 2-3 tbsp & for deep frying
  7. Coriander leaves : a few chopped
  8. All Purpose flour : 1/2 cup
  9. Water : as required to make batter
  10. Salt : to taste

Method :

Heat 2-3 tbsp oil in a kadai , when hot add mustard seeds and wait till they splutter. Add onion and green chillies and saute. Add turmeric powder and salt and saute again for few minutes. Put the mashed potatoes and mix well . Finally add coriander seedsd and after mixing well take them out and keep it aside to let it cool. Make small lemon sized shapes out of the potato mixture . To make the batter, add water and salt to the All Purpose Flour and make its consistency medium enough to coat all the sides of potato balls (like the Pazham Pori batter ). In a wok, heat oil for deep frying. When hot, soak the potato ball on all sides in the batter and fry them in the oil . Take them out when it turns slightly brown. Follow the same with remaining potato balls.
