Meat Box / Irachi Petti

Meat Box or Irachi Petti is a Malabari snack famous during Ifthar parties. This one is new for me thats why I gave it a try. I got this recipe from Nawwal Althuaf 's blog Love from Kitchen . She has alot of Ifthar recipes . A sister snack to this is Panineer Petti which is the sweet version of this. If you have already prepared the meat filling in the freezer, you will find this snack quite easy and that too tasty. Why not try this ?

Ingredients :

  1. Chicken Filling : 1 cup
  2. Coriander leaves : chopped , a few
  3. All Purpose Flour : 1/2 - 1 cup
  4. Beaten egg : 1
  5. Water : enough to make batter
  6. Salt : to taste
  7. Oil : For shallow frying

Method :

After defrosting the Chicken Filling  in a pan add  1 or 2 tsp of oil and saute the chicken filling for few minutes. Add coriander leaves and keep it aside after mixing. Now make a medium consistency batter using all purpose flour, salt and water. Thin consistency is better. Now make a dosa of medium diameter. Place the dosa in a plate and put a 2 tbsp of the filling in the center of dosa. Fold the opposite sides of dosa to the center first and the other two opposite sides next so that the filling is inside. This will form a box shape or envelope.

Meat-Box

Follow same procedure with the remaining batter and the filling. Heat the oil in a pan for shallow frying. For the dipping, add few coriander leaves in a beaten egg. Dip each prepared box in the egg mixture and shallow fry in medium flame. Flip when one side turns golden-brown.
