Kerala Parippu (dal) Curry / Lentil Curry

I am totally lost! Have been away from my blog only because I had no other choice. Wanna know why? My laptop got crashed and all my 'extra valuable' blog items were lost! How much hard work I had behind those stuffs! And now am typing on something which hesitantly supports blogging... Uploading pics, editing, deleting, everything is creating a mess one after the other ...@@@@@$$$??!!! Somehow I have to find a way out...

Ingredients :

  • Cherupayar parippu / Moong Dal : 1 Cup
  • Water : as required

For paste :-
  • 1/2 cup Grated coconut
  • Green Chillies : 2-3
  • Cumin seeds : 1/2 tsp
  • Turmeric powder : 1/4 tsp
  • Water : enough to make paste

For tempering :-
  • Coconut Oil : 1 tbsp
  • Mustard seeds : 1/4 tsp
  • 3 Shallots : sliced
  • Curry leaves : a few
  • 2-3 Dried red chillies : halved

Method:

  1. In a pressure cooker add enough water and the dal or lentil along with salt. Cook for at least 2 whistle.
  2. Meanwhile ground the ingredients mentioned under 'paste' in a grinder
  3. When dal is cooked, mash them and add the paste into this. Add water if required. Let this cook again for few more minutes . Switch off flame.
  4. For tempering heat oil in a pan. Splutter mustard seeds, curry leaves, red chillies and shallots . When shallots turn lightly brown pour this onto the prepared dal.
  5. Serve with a tsp of ghee on top with rice or even chappathis
